Over 33% of Nigerians Now Engaged in Digital Assets

Recent data from SEC Nigeria reveals a major shift in the country’s investment behavior. More than $50 billion traded in cryptocurrency transactions between 2023 to 2024. 

“Over 33% of our population are engaged in digital assets,” says Dr. Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria. He added that we must take this as seriously as the opportunity it represents.  

Cryptocurrency activity have now overtaken participation in the traditional stock market, signaling a massive pivot toward digital finance. 

Between July 2023 and June 2024, Nigeria recorded more than $50 billion in cryptocurrency transactions, a staggering milestone that reaffirms what we all already know: Nigeria is Africa’s crypto capital. 

With 1/3 of Nigerians participating in the digital economy, we stand among the top global crypto markets by transaction volume.
